Let me add something that is commonly discussed in PowerCore: the idea that anybody is a potential client (can’t you hear Wendy now, mockingly saying “anybody who fogs a mirror”?).

And yet my clients act this way more often then not. When I insist on narrowing the scope, they might say something like “all attorneys”, or “everybody over the age of 45”. In other words: the categories are still too broad.

My clients go through specific exercises to help determine who their best client really is, starting from the problem they solve, rather than the person they work with. What I want people to learn is that a narrow client definition does not restrict sales opportunities: it focuses them and will grow your business for you.
