What to DO to GET Referrals: Element: Credibility | Topic: Substitution – Preparation

Referral Trigger for the week of May 14
Topic: Element: Credibility | Topic: Substitution

Substitution is a way to get referrals—
both from Subs at our Team,
and,
for those who can, by subbing at other Teams.
Share the most important thing a Sub can do,
when they come to our Team,
to make you consider referring a client to them. Tell why doing this is important to you.

(Don’t repeat an item, but you can build on it.)

    What Izzy said, plus…

Make eye contact and introduce themselves to the members they are sitting next to before the meeting starts and engage in some meaningful small talk.

You get one chance to make a first impression. With that in mind be passionate when you are reading the info-minute for the person that you are subbing for. We need to be a good steward of their info-minute just like when we present our personal info-minute.

As someone who subs often I truly know how important it is to be a good sub. Attendance is very important, if you say you will be there do everything you can to be there. I have had meetings come up, or got sick but I made sure to reach out to the person I was subbing for and the membership coordinator to let them know that I apologize but I can’t make it. Secondly, make sure to be active. If you sub and don’t engage in conversations before or after the meeting or if you don’t try to set up coffees with anyone on that team you aren’t doing anything to benefit yourself or to potentially invite referrals. Also, make sure to bring one of your better InfoMinutes since you may not have many opportunities to speak in front of the team. Finally, let people know that if they need a sub in the future you are willing to help.

As a sub, be sure to take a quick glance at the Team directory for the club you will be subbing on. This way you know who the officers are and get a chance to fill out a referral slip ahead of time to take a new person to coffee.
