When your best girlfriend chooses orange juice
instead of coffee with breakfast,
and passes on wine at dinner,
it’s a good bet she’s pregnant!

  • What behavior do we see early, that alerts us a client is
going to have a coming need for your business?
  • What are your early alert symptoms?

a HUGE clue someone is ready to talk to me about car insurance is “Browsing Car Reviews” and “Asking Car Preference Questions on Facebook.”

Most people continue with the status quo on car insurance until they’re shopping for a new car; it’s the easiest and best time to bring me in.

The early warning signs that an attorney needs help with their digital marketing and online presence often revolve around their business card. When you meet an attorney who 1) has hand-written corrections to the information on their card, 2) discourages you from visiting the website listed on the card because it’s “being redone,” or 3) has a brand new card since the last time you saw them will love a connection to me. Each of these signs indicate a state of change to their firm or brand, and they’ll be excited about promoting those changes online.

Changes in family size are typically a sign that a review of the housing situation is in order. Kids leaving for college? Downsize from that 4 bedroom house. Your best friend lives who lives in a condo just adopted 2 puppies. Might be a good time to buy that first house with a backyard. New baby in a one bedroom- time to get a bigger place. Change in family size is an opportune time to ask if they will be moving.

A business that is moving to larger space or upgrading its technology may be an early sign that it is growing. As a business attorney I can assist with the preparation of employment and contractor agreements and agreements between the owners of the business.

Usually a client is having frequent falls. The reason for the fall varies from an infection, change of medication, or a general decline in health. Non medical home care can help prevent falls and consequently reduce admission frequency to the hospital.

Interestingly enough, pregnancy is one of the early signs that someone may need both Karen Armstrong and my services in the near future. According to a recent NAR survey, 68% of homebuyers annually have recently experienced a “life changing” event. These can include marriage, expected or recent birth of a child, divorce, death of a family member, or becoming empty nesters, among others. Any “life changing” event is a sign that a potential or past client’s housing needs are about to change.

A dead giveaway is when a client or potential client calls me about a car wreck and asks me a bunch of questions…he or she is trying to DIY. I am happy to help (goodwill brings future referrals), but sure as I am sitting here, they will call back within a few days to retain me. It is quite easy to become frustrated when dealing with the many issues involved in a car wreck.

As a commercial photographer, I look at my clients’ and potential clients’ blog and social media posts for announcements of new associates joining the company. Often times the portrait shown in the press release does not match others on the company’s website. That’s a great alert symptom for my executive portrait business.

A business needs to be both strategic and tactical. Problems in tactical areas are often a sign of a lack of strategic approach.

Employee turnover or a long-standing management team member departing are probably due to a deeper problem. Equally a company that changes its marketing and sales tactics or targets continuously is a good candidate.
Behaviorally much this can be identified by a business owner who is continuously finding the one magic pill that will push the company to growth.

The more obvious trigger is major change, whether a new owner, team, product or market.

As we deal with security, any time someone mentions or experiences a crime in their area, that would be a good indication I would be a good referral to them.

A good example would be someone posting on the HOA/Community Facebook page about recent crime or a suspicious car driving around the neighborhood.

Ask them if they have any security concerns regarding their home.

When you see that corporate executive planning her next phase of life. She is trying to cut down on the number of hours she spends at the office and achieve more of a work life balance. She is wondering if she can retire sooner rather than later…….I can help her get clarity and develop a game plan for early retirement.

When notice that they are passing on going to play golf because they can’t swing the club with out having pain in their lower back. Ask them if they have considered getting their spine professionally checked.

There are 3 early indicators for potential customers in our business:

    1. We receive a request for quote or they ask if we could write it for them
    2. They call or email me when they are ready to look at LED solutions.
    3. They allow me to do an energy analysis right when I walk in on a cold call situation.

Very cut and dry for us at Netzero.

As the company parking lot gets more full, and staff additions are making cubicles and corner offices scarce, opening up a new office space is typically a conversation in the works. This is a great time to connect me with those having the conversation about new space- they’ll want to make sure their Multi-function printer/scanner/copiers match the company size and goals/objectives as they grow. I can help by connecting them with the best manufacturers in the industry and best service in the city.

When you are talking to your friend about your children’s school or extra-curricular activities and he has no idea what is going on, then it is a good indication that proper information is not being effectively shared between him and the other parent. As a family law attorney, I get to understand the dynamics of the parties’ relationship and the problems that are identified by the client (e.g., not knowing about a soccer game or a parent-teacher meeting). I can create parenting plan that will take such concerns into consideration. Whether the client can institute these suggestions himself or whether a modification action needs to be filed, there are always methods of improving a co-parenting relationship.

Complaining about their closing. The tell-tale sign a realtor is in need or will be in need of my services is very easy to spot; they will tell you they are not happy about the attorney they most recently used. While most realtors are too professional to post something too derogatory on social media, they can post subtle comments such as “got the property closed, even though we had to move the closing to a different day.” Most likely, you’ll hear them complain verbally at coffee or lunch. If you hear them say, “I couldn’t reach the attorney or anyone in the firm,” they will likely be looking for firm, like mine, where they can reach the attorney in the near future.

When you have trouble talking to your friend because his business keeps him so busy. It seems the more he hires the busier he becomes. But one wrong hire can be a costly mistake. This is a perfect time to introduce me. I can help him develop a drug testing program that will save his company 7.5% of their growing workmen’s comp insurance premium and reduce the likelihood of hiring an employee that has disruptive substance abuse issues.

When your friend Judy, a 49-year-old mother of 3 who just sent her last child off to college, mentions she’s in need of good sneakers but is wary of how much they’ll cost, you can probably assume that she is looking to take advantage of her newfound free time to get moving more, but has to do so on a budget thanks to tuition payments. When you go out to eat after shopping, she wants to know the price – and the calorie count – of nearly every item on the menu. She is doing what she can to try to re-establish her fitness routine, but she will soon be ready for some guidance to help her achieve her goals. And my guidance is incredibly affordable!

Since I am a therapist, people seek out my services because they are having difficulty in their relationship. However, a clue that clients need more than just couples counseling if there is some underlying depression or if there are sine underlying problems with addiction. When those issues are present then I do an assessment and refer them to an addiction specialist or for a medication consult with a psychiatrist.

A service business that has recently hired a CMO or Marketing Consultant is typically gearing up to get some quick ROI. We’ve helped businesses in a similar situation to implement strategies for acquiring new business, led by the new marketer. She strategizes, we execute, and she quickly looks like a great hire.

When your friend Joe, that owns an electrical company mentions to you that he has to lay off some employees because he’s losing business. More than likely, he’s stretched financially and can no longer sustain it.

An early symptom I see is when I talk to construction companies, and they tell me they have trouble bidding on other jobs because they are still waiting to get paid from the last one.

When your friend Jenny is excited about her business growth but complains that she doesn’t really see the fruits of her labor she may just need some additional expertise. Business owners are often subject matter experts but need additional support on financial management matters. I assess my clients current circumstances and help them navigate towards their goals.

When you are in a client’s office and you see a stack of resumes on the corner of their desk, that is a good indication that they are in a hiring cycle. If they cancel a scheduled lunch with you because they have to interview someone for a position, that is also a signal that they may need more office space. If they have multiple desks in one office and employees are stacked on top of each other, they probably need to at least investigate the feasibility of additional space. At that point, they would want to meet with me and I can help them quantify the answers to their questions

Watching “Next Door” and referring us as the request for home repairs and renovations is made online is one of the best referral sources.
A pregnant woman – nesting – usually has lots of changes she wants to make in preparing her home for the new arrival.
Someone moving in our out of a house has repairs they do to sell and changes once they move in.
And as always, a good storm makes the phone ring.
A great easy soft ball is when someone moves into your neighborhood. Take them my card. Welcome them and say, “This will be of some help sometime…”

When I witness a potential client trying to make healthy choices, choosing gluten free, dairy free, low sodium or choosing a salad over a burger, this tells me that they are making some clean eating choices and I can discuss more ways to flood their body with whole fruits and vegetables, or grow their own food in a tower garden.

When I witness a potential client not making healthy choices, I won’t be judgmental, but I will suggest an alternative.

Insurance is often the last thing that people thing of until something happens and they need to use it.
Regarding personal insurance, these will help identify a person needing my services, before they have a claim.
Homeowners: There is a construction dumpster outside of their home which means they are making significant repairs/additions. There is coverage during construction to consider as well as independently reviewing the Homeowners policy after construction is complete to evaluate coverage limits and check for savings from other companies.

Auto: There’s a new car in the driveway. This should always be a time to get alternate insurance quotes. An independent agent who knows the unique offerings from each insurance carrier and who understands that not all loan/lease gap coverage and new car replacement policies are the same, can provide immediate savings and be the difference in thousands of dollars out of pocket when an accident occurs.

A big early warning for me is a business that has a hard time scheduling or keeping appointments. This may indicate that they are using a paper scheduling calendar and trying to share it among multiple workers.

Another is that they are having a hard time getting invoices out on time. This may indicate that their billing process is totally manual as well.

There is a 63% probability that the business owners know they should be making better use of technology. There is almost a 100% probability that a complete, affordable software system with a mobile app exists that can automate these and other processes and put the small business on equal footing with their much larger competitors.

Our Health insurance premiums have skyrocketed and deductibles have tripled, the average family cannot afford to pay the premiums.
The signs I see are stress when speaking to individuals about how to afford to keep good coverage.
They are talking about having to change Dr’s as their plan is no longer accepted.
Frustration at the entire system of our healthcare being regulated by a few politicians.
