What to SAY to GET Referrals
Cube: GateOpeners

and Who are you a GateOpener for?

  • Who do more than half of your clients ask you for a referral to?
  • What is important to you about the person you choose to refer?
  • Do you refer to more than one person in this category?

What differentiators determine which of them you will refer?

An internet provider is my most common referral. It is important that I refer someone who is going to provide good service without pressure, do what is best for the customer rather than what makes them the most money, and not attempt to sell additional services that I also provide to the customer. I work with multiple providers and I typically call the ones that can source multiple options first because it reduces my involvement and shows the customer more options quickly.

I am a gate opener for both bankruptcy and corporate lawyers for different reasons. I choose the person to whom I am referring based on my knowledge of that person’s professionalism, work ethic and availability. I like to choose which contact I make the referral to based on location and availability which tends to spread the love.
