What To Say To Get Referrals: Pronouns | Catcher

A referral is for the benefit of the client—their benefit—not the benefit of the Team Member who makes the bank deposit.

Pick one client. Describe their initial problem, then define the resulting benefit they got.

What was their result because of you—and why was that result important to them?

I photographed for my client, a local personal injury attorney.

A woman was out for her evening run in downtown Chamblee. She ran at speed along the sidewalk of brand-new buildings. What she did not see was a pair of double-headed temporary nails in a board poking barely above the sidewalk's edge leading to the pavement. The tip of her shoe caught on the nails, sending her face-first into the street. She was badly hurt. My client called me late the same evening from the hospital where the runner was in the emergency room. Early the next morning, I met my client to photographically document where the victim was running and the surrounding areas. I also made close-ups of the nails that were half an inch - the size of a dime - above the sidewalk. I photographed the truth before contractors could change the story.

My client had everything she needed to represent the runner in negotiating a settlement or in court.

Photographs take juries to places and times that they cannot visit. I am very good at getting details into pictures for personal injury attorneys.

Mindy runs a small real estate brokerage. She called up our office number one recent Thursday morning and said, "I think I deleted some files that I need. We have to keep these for regulatory purposes! What can I do?"

Calls like this can be difficult because there's usually only a small window of time to successfully recover deleted files, and then only in fairly specific circumstances.

But, because Mindy had the tech pros Managed Backup Service, I was able to login to her backups, search through the previous days until we found the day before the files went missing, and successfully restore the missing files.

This result, a successful recovery, was the direct result of my recommendation to Mindy that her brokerage NEEDED the protection of automated, managed backups. The result was important to Mindy because she was able to meet her regulatory requirements, avoiding potential large fines. And she is confident that her business' data is safe, so she can focus on other important parts of her business.

In general, the cabinet making industry has an 8-12 week lead time on custom cabinets. My customer needed a commercial bathroom vanity, built, painted and installed  within 3 weeks before the franchisor was due for a facility inspection. Instead of just giving a canned answer of "No, not possible" I decided to check "What is possible". Luckily I received the commitment from the designer, the production manager, operations manager, and the painter. Everyone involved agreed we could sneak it in and get the job done, without any detriment to work already in process. The thing is that doesn't guarantee readiness, because the client didn't just need the vanity installed, they needed it operational with functional plumbing. This required careful coordination between H&H Custom Woodworks and Precision Stoneworks to be able to install the granite counter tops immediately the next day. Hitting the target deadline allowed the customer enough time to complete the plumbing portion with minimal disruption to their business, and within plenty of time before the franchisor's arrival. We are not capable of this all the time, but I always willing to make an effort towards possiblity.

A client came to me after not hearing from his current loan officer. The loan officer went silent, and he needed a cash out refinance for remodeling on his home. While we were talking on the phone, he received an email saying the loan was denied. He never heard from the loan officer.

Why was he denied?

He was self-employed and his personal tax returns showed too little income. I asked the client if his previous loan officer reviewed his business returns. He said those were never requested. I got both the personal and business returns. I could see why the personal returns looked bad as very little income was shown on the Schedule E from the business returns. When I looked into the business returns, I found ways to make the loan work. The business took large depreciation and depletion deductions, which can be added back to the qualifying income. He also showed a carry forward loss, which again, can be added back. Once I added back the income, he qualified for the loan, was able to get the cash out of his home, and completed the renovation to the home.

This is why it is so important to get business and personal returns for self employed buyers.

Tony received a traffic ticket for 'following too closely' after a minor fender bender. These tickets are 'appearance' tickets. You can not simply pay a fine online, and even if you could, you never should. All traffic violations are misdemeanor offenses in Georgia punishable by 12 months in jail and up to a $1000 fine. That's the definition of a misdemeanor. And if you simply pay a fine on a traffic ticket before going to court, it gets reported as a ‘guilty’ to the Department of Drivers Services.

Tony missed his scheduled court date. This makes things exponentially worse. The Court issued a ‘failure to appear’ against him and reported that to the DDS. This resulted in the DDS suspending Tony’s driver’s license. Tony was then pulled over several months later and arrested for driving on a suspended license. So now he had two criminal charges he was facing.

I told Tony to contact his insurance company and obtain a ‘liability letter’ stating they accepted liability for the accident and paid the damages to the other driver and take a defensive driving course. While he did all of that, I got a new court date for him on the accident case. We presented the letter and course certificate and the Solicitor reduced the ‘following too close’ charge to a ‘basic rules’ violation, This is a non-reportable offense. After closing this case, a 912 form was sent to the DDS notifying them that there was no longer an FTA. He was then allowed to reinstate his license.

We then went to court on his suspended license ticket. Because he had a valid license, the solicitor reduced that charge to ‘no license on person.’ This is important, because if he were to plead guilty for driving on a suspended license, he would suffered another suspension.

An orthodontist client decided to partner with me because they were going through a name change. The previous practice has been around for over a decade. A new owner took over and planned to change the name across 3 of their locations. That also including needing a new website. They reached out to their current web provider and asked about the details for the website as well as the name change and how that needed to be handled online. The response they got back was just let us handle it and we will get it taken care of. I was referred to them as another option.

I took the time to do my own research and in our meeting I walked through our step by step plan of how we would build the website as well as make sure the name change did not affect any of their rankings on Google. Because I took the time to explain our process and how we have already done this before with many other clients, they decided to hire my team and get to work right away.

Clients aren't always just interested in more business sometimes they just want to make sure problems are handled and future problems will also be handled.

When Nora came to Next Age Fitness, she had been a widow for 5 years and told me she had been doing "nothing".   It sounded like she had been grieving, just a guess, I’m not a therapist. She had ONE goal.  She was going to Rome with a group and she didn’t want to fall.  We had 6 months to train.  Her job was to do two things every week.  1) practice NOT falling every day by walking. Start small and easy (mall walking) and progress to less easy walking like around her neighborhood or at the park.  And 2) strength train with me, once a week, to build muscle to help balance and confidence.  At age 70, she did not enjoy either one; however she was much better at attending our 20 minute workout than walking daily.   When her Rome trip came around, she was very happy she did not embarrass herself and had a great time.  It was awesome for me to see her move forward enjoying life and appreciating what she had instead of what she had lost.

My clients Dan and Tiphanie came to me struggling with debt and not having direction for their finances.  During our three months together they were able to get rid of several of their debts, get on a consistent proactive budget, and begin to build their savings.  One of the key things that they accomplished during our time together was a mindset shift on how they were spending money and setting priorities for common goals.

A male patient came back into the office after going ghost for at least two months, if not longer than that. Before his hiatus, he was dealing with low back pain. However, I'm assuming that he started feeling better and probably felt as if the care was no longer needed. Upon his return to the office, the patient shared with me that he was dealing with erectile dysfunction. During this visit, the patient stated that he saw some YouTube videos that mentioned chiropractic care as an option to resolve his issue. Therefore, he came back to the office to see how I could help. After performing updated examinations it was my recommendation to restart the treatment plan that I initially created for him. A few weeks later, the patient reported to me that he was back in business. The patient also explained to me how it was affecting his marriage along with his mental and emotional state as his confidence/ego took a hit. Like many of my patients, his quality of life was affected. The ability to regain his quality of life and get back to normal was so important to him and an overall game changer.

I had a client who was canceled due to their roof needing repairs.  They had just purchased their insurance a couple of months with a competing agency and after the post bind inspection, they were told that they were not eligible for coverage due to the roof damage.  The client was frantic.  They had closed on their home less than 90 days prior and were not having luck finding insurance.  One of my clients referred them to me.  When we spoke, I assured them that they would be fine.  I referred them to Brandon Saurine on my team to get their roof replaced.  Before their coverage ended, I was able to provide them with a new policy.  After one year, I was able to provide them with an even more competitive insurance rate.

The front of Wes' hair had always looked like Big Bird and a tornado had a baby and glued it on his head.

I have spent years studying the architecture of hair, and Wes had what I call a realy mean "cowlick." An isolated swirling hair growth pattern. His hair was very dense, so in addition to growing in a circular pattern, the hairs were stacking on top of each other, pushing each other into directions where the hair didn't want to go, creating more resistance and more chaos.

One of my scissors shapes women's hair by removing hair under the surface which doesn't need to be there. I adapted this technique to work in men's hair. In Wes' case, it cleared the path for his hair to flow in the direction which it wanted to go. Halfway into it, the front section switched direction and snapped into its natural growth pattern. He hasn't had to use gel since then... a year later, His confidence has soared, he has started dating, and he got a promotion at his job.

I'm The Silver Scissor - I won't say that my cut changed his life... but I won't say it wasn't involved.

Gardening is a moderate intensity physical activity for older adults. Unfortunately, the body positions one is in while gardening, such as kneeling, lifting, squatting, and bending, can lead to various bodily pains. A couple months ago, a client (we will call her Sally) came to me because she was having intense knee and back pain while tending to her garden. The pain was so bad, she no longer enjoyed the one activity that brought her peace every day after work. As a 60-year-old who practices yoga three times a week, she felt confused and frustrated that her body was failing her. In our first session, I assessed Sally’s alignment, observing how each external body part moved within the joint and in relation to the entire body. Additionally, we created an action plan to help her achieve her movement goals, which included creating exercises and stretches that would support the kinematics needed to garden without pain. It was important to make the action plan easily digestible because Sally needed to be motivated to be consistent with her exercises and stretches outside of our sessions together. I regularly checked in with her during the week and created videos to document the exercises and stretches she needed to do weekly. For the first month, we were meeting twice a week for an hour each time. Since then, we have decreased the number of times we meet a month to every other week. She reported that she was able to garden with minimal pain at the beginning of our third month together. She saw the benefit of the work we were doing, so we are still meeting to create balanced muscles and stability in her body. Sally is now able to enjoy her meditative practice of gardening without pain. She even started picking up other hobbies, such as ceramics!

My client was struggling with what she described as self-hatred and wanting to give up on her artistic goals due to feeling too old to “make it”. I guided her through the process of relationship repair with herself, and she came out the other side loving who she is. Moving from this new mindset, she realized the need to give herself permission to be herself, and she has engaged deeply in her creative work once again.

I'm working with a family of three right now that face a typical issue. They're going to Europe for the first time and want to do ALL the things -- but only have a week to do it. These clients definitely want to see some of Paris and London but also want some time in the countryside. This is still a tall order for one week. I've helped them narrow things down for London and Paris based on their interests. Where I really helped them, however, was finding a place outside the city that they could visit. It's a destination that will be quick and easy to reach and makes sense logistically. I'm a problem solver for this client and what's where I've brought value!

I have a client name Dr. Thomas who was referred to me for a Small Business Loan for 150,000.00 and then plan was to hire employees and have working capital for business needs.

Dr. Thomas did the application and was initially declined for funding. Looking within the credit report, the client showed 2 late payments that Dr. Thoma's was not aware of.

I advised Dr. Thoma's to get his credit report and see where those late payments were being reported by which we found out by ordering the credit report from Capital One, but Dr. Thomas does not have a Capital One Credit Card.

Dr. Thomas and I called Capital One and after a hour of being on the phone found out a credit card 4 months ago was opened in the client's name.  Dr. Thomas filled out a questionnaire with Capital One to dispute the card and filed a police report and now an investigation is under way to clear Dr. Thomas name and credit report.

A client came to me to figure out what she wanted to do in the next chapter of her life. She was amazing in sales and very successful in her career but was miserable. Although she was confident in front of large audiences and could easily strike up a conversation with high-profile CEOs, she struggled to look in the mirror.

The real problem wasn't her career; it was how she felt about herself.

After her NLP breakthrough session, I asked her if she would be willing to look at herself in the mirror. She did, and she even looked herself in the eyes, smiled, and said, “I love you!”

My client offers Mobile Pet Grooming and has 2 vans to reach customers across Metro Atlanta. I knew that in February most carriers took a rate increase for Auto insurance which included Business Auto. I also know insurance companies require that the customer initiate all changes to their policies including discounts and saving discussions. What I did was make him aware of the potential increase and encouraged him to pay careful attention to the renewal offer that he would receive 45 days prior to the new policy becoming effective. I checked with him to see that he'd received his renewal and was aware of the 62% premium change.  After reviewing his renewal, he decided to shop for a better rate. Communication prevented an unpleasant surprise of an automatic deduction hundreds of dollars more than he had been paying, overdraft fees, embarassment, frustration, and the inconvenience that an unplanned several hundred dollar payment would cause most of us.

I got a call from a Cumming, GA resident (I'll call him "Bob") who had been in a car accident.  The other driver's insurance company reached out to him before I represented him.  The insurer offered Bob less than $10,000 even though his medical expenses already exceeded that amount.  He hadn't finished treatment yet, either.

The problem was that Bob already signed a release form accepting the $10,000.  I told Bob that he probably didn't have a case but that I wanted to look at the release first.  Amazingly, the release form did not include language in it that Georgia law required, making the entire agreement invalid.  I called the insurer and informed them of this fact.  The Michigan-based insurance adjuster told me that this was a known issue with several release forms in their office.  She acknowledged that the release form was invalid and re-opened negotiations with us.

Four attorneys reviewed the case before I had it.  Everyone told Bob that his case was over.  Bob was ready to give up.  I used my 20 years of experience to show him why it wasn't.

I'm helping a client who wanted a website which is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  She hired an agency which used an "ADA overlay" plugin. ADA Overlays have been shown in court cases as insufficient to meet ADA requirements. Today she has a website which has been completely rebuilt to meet the ADA requirements. It is important to her because she serves people who have disabilities.
