I thought I’d be cute and ask Wendy my favorite get to know you question: “If you were to throw a dinner party and could invite anyone you wanted to, past or present, whom would you invite and why?” Of course, Wendy didn’t directly answer that question. Instead, she told me about a situation that made me think about how I strive to get to know people. Many of you may know Wendy collects cookbooks. Did you also know that for a long time she has wanted to meet Shirley O. Corriher, the author of CookWise: The Hows & Whys of Successful Cooking? And, wouldn’t you know it, because she said those words – “I want to meet the author of this cookbook” – out loud and to the right people, she was presented with an opportunity to do so, thanks in part to the six degrees of Kevin Bacon principle, which she also informed me is only three degrees because Wendy knows these things. The point is that approaching getting to know others with intentionality and openness leads to action and opportunity. I am proud to introduce the possessor of more cookbooks and interesting facts than anyone else I know – Wendy Kinney.
