I am Sri Chakravarty with Profitability Business Solutions, and I help ensure my clients are not part of the 70% that fail to sell. According to the Exit Planning Institute, 70% of businesses that are put on the market do not sell. One reason is, business financials are mixed with non-business expenses, which creates a murky picture and reduces the valuation. When George asked me to prepare his factory’s financials for sale, I found his operating expenses were much higher than the average company of this size. By analyzing his transactions, I discovered that George was paying the rent for his daughter’s staging business, which was not related to his business at all. I helped George separate non-business-related expenses from his P&L and cleaned up to his financials. This enabled a smooth selling process and increased the valuation by 20%. There are three steps to the business plan process 1. to understand the company's goals, or "top-down". 2. To analyze the company's capabilities, or "bottom-up". and 3. When the company's capabilities are not aligned with its' goals, to "Close the Gap".
