When Nora came to Next Age Fitness, she had been a widow for 5 years and told me she had been doing "nothing". It sounded like she had been grieving, just a guess, I’m not a therapist. She had ONE goal. She was going to Rome with a group and she didn’t want to fall. We had 6 months to train. Her job was to do two things every week. 1) practice NOT falling every day by walking. Start small and easy (mall walking) and progress to less easy walking like around her neighborhood or at the park. And 2) strength train with me, once a week, to build muscle to help balance and confidence. At age 70, she did not enjoy either one; however she was much better at attending our 20 minute workout than walking daily. When her Rome trip came around, she was very happy she did not embarrass herself and had a great time. It was awesome for me to see her move forward enjoying life and appreciating what she had instead of what she had lost.
